When David's sin with Bathsheba was exposed by Nathan, there was something else exposed - David's heart. His response to the revelation of his sin caused him to repsond to God as a man who was after God's heart.  His sin was exposed in 2 Samuel 12, but his heart was revealed in Psalm 51. Psalm 51 is the prayer of a guilty man, caught in his sin, and broken hearted - not because he got caught, but because he realized the full depravity of his own heart. David sinned when he called Bathsheba to his bed, but he was renewed when he pleaded for the Holy Spirit to come to his side and give him a new heart, a renewed spirit and a fresh start.
